Administratively Crete is divided into four prefectures:
Iráklion (2.641 km2) with the island's capital of the same name,
Chaniá (2.376 km2) with the main town of the same name
Lassíthi (1.823 km2) with the main town of Ágios Nikólaos,
Rethímni (1.496 km2) with the main town of Réthimno.
These four prefectures are divided into 64 municipalities
