Geography

Crete is situated in the intersection where three continents meet: Europe, Asia and Africa.

The island lies 100 km from Peloponnese, 175 km from Turkey and 300 km from Africa.

It is - with its 8.336 km2 - the largest of the Greek islands, and among the Mediterranean islands Crete comes in fifth after Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica and Cyprus.

The seas around Crete are called The Cretan Sea to the north, The Libyan Sea to the south, The Karparthian Sea to the east and The Myrtoon Sea to the west.
