Moni

On the road to Sougia you pass the village Moni in the Selino district. The village has only approximately 50 inhabitants.

On the outskirts of the village there is an old Agios Nikolaos church from 1315.
The church is decorated with frescoes by the well-known painter Ioannis Pagomenos, who in the period 1314-1347 decorated several churches in the area and on the Apokoronas peninsula, for instance the Agios Georgios church at Komitades (1314), the Agios Georgios church in Anydroi (1323), the Michael Archangelos church in Kavalariana close to Kandanos (1328), the Panagia church in Veilitika close to Kakodiki (1332), the Panagia church in Skafida close to Rodovani (1347), the Panagia church in Alikambos on the Apokoronas peninsula (1316) and the Agios Nikolaos church in Maza (1326), where he besides is buried.

Outside the church is a small bell tower.
East of the village - not far away from the outlet of the Agia Eirini gorge - there is a Panagia Kera church with an impressive bell tower.

The tower was built in the beginning of the 19th century.

Besides the unusual tower, which in itself is worth seeing, you should also admire the beautiful, carved wooden iconostasis inside the church.
